    Course Overview

    Functional Skills qualifications are designed to develop the learner’s ability to represent situations using mathematics, including analysing calculations, solving problems using mathematics, and interpreting mathematics to explain situations. Level 2 is assessed with a non-calculator and a calculator exam which will be taken simultaneously in one sitting totalling 1 hour 55 minutes.

    The course covers the following areas:

    • Using positive and negative numbers of any size in practical contexts, including appropriate rounding
    • Calculate ratio and proportion including solving problems involving scale
    • Fractions Decimals and Percentages
    • Simple formulae and equations
    • Perimeter area and volume, including 2D and 3D shapes
    • Conversion between metric and imperial measures
    • Collect and represent discrete and continuous data including use of ICT
    • Using and interpreting statistical measures, tables and diagrams
    • Using probability to assess the likelihood of an outcome

    This course will be delivered 3 hours per week (subject to change).
