Course overview

The Extended Diploma in Forensic and Criminal Investigation is highly rewarding and provides learners who aim to progress to higher education courses with the opportunity to continue their education through applied learning. It encompasses all three science disciplines as well as law, forensic photography, genetics, fire investigation, anthropology, archaeology, criminology, psychology, and stages of police and forensic investigations, and is a progression route to university for these subjects.

This qualification consists of studying thirteen units over two years and is taught with an emphasis on practical sessions, supported by self-study, presentations, group work, discussion, and educational visits.

  • Forensic Investigation Procedures in Practice
  • Applications of Criminology
  • Criminal Investigation Procedures in Practice

Students must have the ability to meet assessment deadlines. The programme also has 1 unit with an external exam and 3 units with an external task set by BTEC. We will visit places of work to prepare you for your chosen career path and work experience is planned throughout the year.

All students who have not achieved a grade 4 (C) or above in GCSE English or maths will need to study these subjects alongside their chosen qualification.
