Course overview

This is a great introductory course for those interested in creating physical outcomes of their digital photographs.  We are capturing so many photographs when using our cameras and phones, but most of them forgotten on some hard drives or sit on old devices not in use anymore.  During this course you will learn how to use your photographs to make wonderful small zines or booklets. Tell your stories in photographs and show family and friends your individually made creations. You may even get the appetite to do this as a small business and sell your zines locally and online. Over the six weeks, we practice different zine-making processes. Starting with simple fold and cutting techniques to Japanese binding, gluing techniques, and online tools. There will be a range of zines to look at to get ideas going.

Other topics include: Basic layout in Photoshop, quick editing in Photoshop Express, Booklet printing, Sequencing images, narrative, using sustainable materials.  The learning experience is supported by free handouts, learning tools, and easy-to-do home-study exercises. All classroom materials are provided.

You need to bring: Must have a range of digital photos in JPG format on a USB drive or accessible from the cloud, smartphone, or tablet (for some tasks).  Refreshments are available from the vending machines on the campus which include both hot and cold drinks.

Please note that the enrolment for this course closes 3 working days before the start of the course. Unfortunately, it is not possible to process late enrolments after that point.
