This course aims to help learners and Health & Social Care professionals to develop their skills and knowledge in an -introduction to the autistic spectrum. During the course, the learner will identify behaviours that are associated with the condition and how to support people using a range of different methods.
This is a 1-day course, 09:30-15:30, face-to-face with an online assessment to be completed remotely.
Completion of this course comes with an accredited qualification and certificate recognised in industry.
Course content/units
- Know the importance of a person-centred approach when working with individuals with an autistic spectrum condition
- Outline why it is important to recognise and value an individual with an autistic spectrum condition as a person first
- Give examples of how to use a person-centred approach when working with individuals with an autistic spectrum condition
- Understand the concept of Autistic Spectrum Condition
- The need to understand it is not an illness or disease
- Behavioural characteristics
- Sensory difficulties
- Understand the importance of effective communication for individuals with an autistic spectrum condition
- Outline the use of visual communication systems for individuals with an autistic spectrum condition
Assessment will include components of face-to-face practicals in our state-of-the-art Health Science campus, as well as an online suite of assessments to which you will have access.
