Course overview

This course aims to help learners and Health & Social Care professionals to develop their skills and knowledge around Learning Disabilities. This unit gives learners an understanding of learning disabilities and the importance of effective communication for the individual.

This is a 1 day course, 09:30-15:30, face-to-face with an online assessment to be completed remotely. 

Completing this course comes with an accredited qualification and certificate recognised in industry.

Course content/units

  • Know the importance of a person-centred approach when working with individuals with a learning disability.
  •  understand the meaning of a ‘person-centred’ approach.
  • Know the main causes of learning disability.
  • Causes of a learning disability.
  • understand the difference between learning disabilities and learning difficulties.
  • Understand the importance of effective communication for individuals with a learning disability.
  • Different methods of communication.
  • Importance of using language appropriate to the age and ability of the person.

Assessment will include practical components in our state-of-the-art Health Science campus, as well as an online suite of assessments you will have access to.
