This course aims to help learners and Health & Social Care professionals to develop their skills and knowledge around Dementia, and Dementia care. This unit will help learners understand how to provide basic care for individuals suffering from dementia. They will learn the meaning of the term ‘dementia’ and its signs and symptoms. This is an introduction to Dementia.
This is a 1-day course, 09:30-15:30, face-to-face with an online assessment to be completed remotely.
Completion of this course comes with an accredited qualification and certificate recognised in industry.
Course content/units
- Know the most common types of dementia
- Identify the most common types of dementia
- Know the signs and symptoms of common types of dementia
- Describe the ways in which common types of dementia can affect an individual
- Know about good practice in caring for an individual with dementia
- Outline the importance of taking a person-centred approach to caring for a person with dementia
- Give examples of ways in which a carer can support an individual with dementia
Assessment will include components of practicals in our state-of-the-art Health Science campus, as well as an online suite of assessments to which you will have access.
