Course Overview

You will learn techniques used in modern building methods that will prepare you for working as a skilled painter and decorator. These include applying oil-based, eggshell and emulsion paints by brush and roller, wall and ceiling coverings, decorative finishes by rag rolling, sponging and stencilling. All teaching will take place in our fully equipped workshop and classrooms under guidance from qualified and experienced staff. You must pass all practical and theory elements of the programme to achieve this nationally recognised qualification.

All students who have not achieved a grade C or grade 4, or above in GCSE English or maths or both will need to study an English or/and maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification.

Entry Requirements

Achieved a Level 1 in Multi-Skills Construction/Painting & Decorating including Level 1 functional skills English or relevant industrial experience including GCSE in English Language at grade D (grade 3)/Level 1 functional skills English, interview and suitable reference.

Course Highlights

This study programme will provide you with a range of skills, taught in our fully equipped workshops. You will have the opportunity to test your skills and participate in competitions at both national and local level, such as Skill Build and the Suffolk Show. You will have the opportunity to work on a range of local community projects outside the College.

The study programme will also develop your personal, social and employability skills and you will receive up to the minute industry knowledge and advice on employability by visiting relevant exhibitions and construction sites.Talks from a wide range of local and national employers will ensure you understand the trade and the skills that they are looking for, but will also give you a good understanding of the various career opportunities and pathways available to you.

Next Steps

Students who completed this programme have progressed onto the next level of study or have gone into employment.

No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2018.
