    Course Overview

    This course is based at our Ipswich campus.

    This study programme is aimed at those wishing to pursue a career as a make-up artist in the exciting and fast evolving world of make-up. It provides you with in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical experience across a variety of units, including principles of working in the make-up industry, anatomy and physiology for make-up artists, principles of researching, developing and showcasing designs, and the art of applying make-up, hair artistry and creative make-up artistry. The practical workshops in our excellent salon facilities will enable you to learn the professional approach to client consultation, make–up and hair techniques, and appropriate aftercare advice.

    Throughout your training programme, you will be required to carry out treatments on peers and paying clients. The Spa and Salons is a high-tech learning environment, providing you with the best facilities and products. You will also engage in work-related learning, including work experience, to help build your confidence levels and enable you to move effectively into the Level 3 advanced technical diploma in media make-up artistry.

    To gain this qualification, students will successfully pass one externally-set practical synoptic examination, one externally-set, externally-moderated assignment, and one externally-set, externally-marked exam, sat under exam conditions and optional unit assessment.

    All students who have not achieved a grade 4 (C) or above in GCSE English or maths will need to study these subjects alongside their chosen qualification.

    Course Highlights

    This study programme provides a range of essential technical and practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or further training within the make-up industry. You will carry out treatments in ‘The Zone’ - our commercial salons - while you work on clients. You have the opportunity to work in the industry by carrying out a minimum of 35 hours work experience, and to find out what is changing in the industry by attending exhibitions such as Beauty for Professionals, where you will learn about the latest trends and equipment to keep you up to date.

    Next Steps

    This course is designed to ensure that you can progress to further vocational studies for relevant level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Make–up Artistry, apprenticeship or full time employment. This qualification can lead to a job as a make-up artist working within a department and make-up store.

    Tuition Costs

    No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2020.

    Additional Costs

    Approximately £300 for uniform/kit and £50 for trips/materials.
