Course Overview

Students attend work experience two days a week, and attend college 3 days.Student complete modules including: supporting emergent Maths and literacy, international perspectives, preparing for school readiness, as well as building a professional practice portfolio.Methods of assessment include: two externally assessed pieces of work, one linked to Year 1 modules and the second to Year 2 modules, other methods include; direct observations of practice, reflection on own practice, and written assignments.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 4 and above (grade A* - C) including English Language & maths or achieved a Level 2 Introduction

to Early Years Education at a Merit grade or above including GCSE English Language, maths & science at grade 4 (grade C), interview and suitable reference, Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) must be in place at enrolment & students must register with the DBS Update Service.

If you achieve 4 GCSEs at grade 4 and above (grade A* - C) including English Language and maths you can enrol on a one year programme with the opportunity to then progress to the second year.

Course Highlights

Students complete 7 modules in Year 1 and gain valuable skills in at least two different childcare settings.In year 2, students complete the remaining 8 modules and a further two placements in Year 2 to enable students to gain a range of experience of working with children from birth to 7 years.The achievement of this qualification supports students keen to progress onto University or in becoming Primary School Teachers.Alternatively, we are proud to announce that many of our students often secure employment from one of the placements they have attended during the course.Students also have the opportunity to achieve a Paediatric First Aid qualification.

Next Steps

Upon completion of this qualification students will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educator or access Higher Education. There are a range of interesting and varied employment opportunities. Students can work as an Early Years Educator supervising staff and children in nurseries, private daycare, pre-schools or as a nanny.  This course enables students to gain UCAS points to progress to Higher Education and is equivalent to three ‘A’ levels.

Tuition Costs

No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2018.

Additional Costs

£25 for the textbook, £14 for a polo shirt for placement, £44 for enhanced DBS check to be completed prior to enrolment with £13 fee to register for the update service which students pay direct toDBS by debit or credit card dbs (subject to change) and £50 for educational trips, with an optional residential trip abroad, costing approx. £300.
