This study programme aims to provide you with an indepth understanding of the operations and structures of businesses, developing the skills required to succeed in employment. Students cover a range of units and will complete assignments investigating topics such as Marketing, Finance and Human Resources, as well as Leadership Skills. You will be assessed in a variety of ways including; presentations, role play, projects and external assessments. Students are expected to undertake 10-12 hours of independent research and study each week. Students benefit from support in developing personal, social and employability skills including work experience with local employers. In 2014-15 88% of students progressed to the next level or another course in the College. 12% applied for apprenticeships.
All students who have not achieved a grade C or 4, or above in GCSE English or maths or both will need to study an English or/and maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification.
4 GCSEs at grade D or grade 3 or above, including English Language and maths or level 1 qualification in a relevant subject and level 1 Functional Skills in English and maths.
Throughout this study programme you will experience how different industries work, hearing from a number of guest speakers from both the private and public sector. These experienced professionals will support your activities and share with you information about how their businesses work, providing you with a valuable insight in to the business world. You can also put the skills you learn to the test by taking part in Global Entrepreneurship Week/Enrichment activities, where you will learn and trade in a live environment.
Students that successfully complete this study programme may be eligible to progress onto the level Extended Diploma in Business. This study programme also prepares students for a career in business in either the private or public sector working in areas such as; Marketing, Retail, Human Resources or Finance. Students will be required to have GCSE Grade C or 4, in English or maths or equivalent Level 2 Functional Skills to progress to level 3 in Business.
No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2017.

I had a great experience in my business course. Choosing this course was the right thing for me because it helped me develop several skills that will be extremely helpful and valuable for me in the future. For example, communication skills, team working skills and management skills.
I am now ready for my next challenge to progress to Level 3 Business.
