    2 GCSEs at grade 1 including English and/or maths or demonstrate the ability to work towards level 1 in English & Maths in an assessment. All students who have not achieved a grade 4 (C) or above in GCSE English or maths will need to study these subjects alongside their chosen qualification

    Course Overview

    This course is based at Suffolk New College - on the coast (Seaward Avenue, Leiston)


    This introductory programme of study has been designed to give students a general introduction to a broad range of construction skills. Practical activities are completed in fully resourced workshops led by highly competent and qualified staff. Students will study technical units to develop skills and knowledge associated with construction to prepare them for further study in particular construction trades.

    Students must pass all practical and theory elements of the programme to achieve this nationally recognised qualification.

    All students who have not achieved a grade 4 (C) or above in GCSE English or maths will need to study these subjects alongside their chosen qualification


    Course Highlights

    All students will demonstrate their practical skills in industry standard workshops. With opportunities to participate in local shows and exhibitions, including the Suffolk Show. Student will have the opportunities to meet local employers within the construction industry to improve employability skills.

    This course will be taught at Suffolk New College - on the coast in Leiston.

    Next Steps

    On completion of this qualification, students can progress onto a level 2 specialised programme in either bricklaying, plumbing, carpentry & joinery, painting & decorating or Electical Installation. Other opportunities into progression onto an apprenticeship programme.

    Tuition Costs

    No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2019.
