Course overview

This is a Level 3 University Arts London (UAL) course.

This exciting 2-year creative study programme is comprised of 6 UAL units, which cover all aspects of art and design activities including workshops such as:

  • 2D Design (Graphic Design, Illustration, Digital Design)
  • 3D Design (Ceramics, Architecture, Model making, Character design, Set design)
  • 4D Design (Film & Sound, Animation)
  • Fine Arts (Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Printmaking)

The core of General Art & Design will be investigative drawing using a range of traditional and non-traditional materials, techniques and processes. As well as, visual studies which explore art and context to encourage technical skills in drawing such as formal elements, still life, tone and perspective. Visual Studies is a fun, explorative and experimentative session where you will explore conceptual understanding in art and design and push the boundaries art is capable of.

This course is designed for you to experiment with multiple workshops, explore a broad range of skills and become a multi-media practitioner. You will use industry-standard equipment and carry out projects that mirror the industry by practising artists and designers. During the first year of the course, you will experience 6 workshops on rotation, where you will begin to explore a range of possibilities within the creative industries. In the second term, you will choose 2 workshops to specialise in where you will begin to develop your creative freedom with guidance from specialist tutors.

In the second year, you are encouraged to specialise from the beginning of the September term to develop your creative style and encourage a professional portfolio.

An ideal applicant is an energetic, committed, enthusiastic, and creative individual with aspirations of a career in the creative industry.

All students who have not achieved a grade 4 (C) or above in GCSE English or maths will need to study these subjects alongside their chosen qualification.
