Amy Roystone, Skin Therapist - Dermalogica

Name: Amy Roystone

What did you study at College?  NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Beauty Therapy

When did you study with us?   2010 – 2011

What do you remember most about your time at College?

I remember learning so many new things on the Suffolk New College course. Upon completing Level 2, I was extremely excited to be accepted onto the Level 3 course where I studied:

  • Anatomy and physiology of the face and body
  • Swedish massage
  • Electrolysis
  • Advanced facials
  • Advanced body techniques
  • Microdermabrasion
  • Eyelash extensions
  • Fake tanning

Throughout the year I was offered opportunities to gain experience working in the College spa, as well as signing up to extra courses in:

  • Make-up
  • Indian head massage
  • Advanced waxing techniques
  • Threading etc…

The Level 3 Beauty staff worked hard to provide students with as much in-depth knowledge as possible. It is clear that they are all passionate about the variety of subjects they teach, and want their students to be a cut above the rest.

What did you do when you left College?

As Suffolk New College offers their Beauty Therapy students the chance to train with Dermalogica products – the UK’s No1 Skin Care range – this gave me a fantastic advantage when I applied for a job with the company. I was successful and believe that had a lot to do with my extensive training in Beauty Therapy and my experience with the products, both gained on the course.

What are you doing now?

I am qualified as a professional Skin Therapist and work for Dermalogica at Harvey Nichols.

After seven weeks of training at their London Academy, I now complete advanced facial treatments, face mapping and skin analysis on a daily basis. I get to use my knowledge in Anatomy and Physiology to prescribe products for clients’ specific skin concerns.

Through studying the Beauty Therapy course I have learnt that the industry is a competitive one, mainly because of it's popularity. I feel that completing the NVQ Level 3 with Suffolk New College not only helped me stand out in an interview, but it has also opened doors to all kinds of exciting opportunities.
