BTEC First Diploma in Music - DMM92F0

BTEC FIRST DIPLOMA IN MUSIC - DMM92F0

BTEC First Diploma

Music

(BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Music)

Course Code: DMM92F0

Is this the right course for me?

This exciting new course is ideal if you are interested in playing, listening to and creating different types of music, but do not have the GCSE profile, breadth of experience, or confidence to apply for a National Diploma.

What do I need to join the course?

Normally, a minimum of four GCSEs at grade D or above (and ideally a grade C in English).  You will also have to demonstrate an interest in music and a willingness to expand your musical knowledge.  You must be able to work as part of a dedicated creative team.

Unlike the National Diploma, you do not necessarily need to be able to play an instrument or sing, although this would obviously put you at an advantage.

What does the course involve?

Our team of expert musicians will provide a thorough grounding in all the elements of music.  Activities will include:

  • Putting on a musical concert
  • Writing your own music and producing your own CD
  • Learning about different types of music from around the world
  • Finding out about the types of career available within the music business
  • Using computers to produce and notate music

There will also be opportunities to work with other students across the Arts Faculty on projects such as performances and recordings.

How will I be assessed?

Most of the assessment of students’ work is continuous and carried out by tutors – in this way students receive constant feedback on their progress.  The outcome of this assessment is confirmed on an annual basis by the Standards Moderator from BTEC.  Some of the assessment will be based upon externally set tests.

When does term start?

This course will commence week beginning September 6th 2010.

How many hours per week do I have to attend College for?

Successful completion of this course will require a combination of private study and tutor directed study.  There are 20 hours of tutor directed study per week.

What can I do when I complete the course?

If you achieve a MERIT profile or above, and play an instrument (or sing to a high standard), you may be eligible to progress to a National Diploma in Music. Alternatively you may choose to apply for an alternative level course within the field of Creative Arts and Media.

Passing the BTEC First Diploma in Music equates to four full GCSEs at grade C or above.

What are the costs?

Tuition Costs: No tuition fees are payable, however, those aged 19 and over at 31 August 2010 will pay a £1200 fee inclusive of external and internal registration fees.

Will I have to pay any additional costs?

There is a course specific charge £60 for essential Trips and Visits and a further £30 for Materials.
