CASE STUDY

“Having really enjoyed a weeks work experience at Atlantic Records in New York, I was advised that if I wanted to work in the field that I should get a qualification in music or business. Having looked on the College website I found this course – and thought this is for me – just what I want to do!

The course has turned out to be really cool and interesting. I’ve enjoyed studying Artist Development and Imaging, and Music Engineering. Others on the course do play instruments, but it’s not necessary. The tutors are so relaxed and friendly, but have authority and do set ground rules. When I’ve finished the course I want to work for a record company in London or New York.”

Media as a subject to study is not about sitting and watching the TV… It’s about doing… getting stuck in and getting on with it. TV, Radio, Video, Photography, these are the areas that you will become skilled in as you progress through this subject.

Our media courses are packed with hands on experience blended with theory in order to develop your knowledge and skills. You will gain an insight into the media industries and the variety of jobs that are available. These include radio presenting/producing, television camera work, writing, directing, music video producing/directing, editing and designing, to name but a few.

During your time with us you will develop a range of practical skills as diverse as screenplay writing, film/television lighting and camerawork, directing actors, photography and radio production. Through a series of projects you will be encouraged to produce exciting, innovative and entertaining work. The courses are divided into a set of projects that run over the year – video, documentary, short dramas, music projects and radio production.

Depending on the level of course and the area you specialise in, you will have the opportunity to produce and present your own show on the in-house student radio station SNC LIVE!

You will have the opportunity to work with real clients such as local artists and musicians who commission students to make their music videos. In the past these have included, Sleeper Cell, Rosalita, Lexu, Irie J and the kabeedees. Film/Television, Music and Radio are the most important art forms of our time, through these mediums individuals, comities and nations express their visions of humanity to the world. The course demands hard work, maturity and self-discipline. Students must be self-motivated and able to work both as an individual and part of a team, but those who do rise to the challenge find it extremely rewarding and, most of all, fun.
