GCSE One Year Programme
Case Study
“I chose to come to Suffolk New College as it is the nearest college to my home and it offered the course I was looking for. The course has been good. I’m taking GCSEs in Media, Sociology, English and Citizenship together with an AS in Human Biology. IT skills and Citizenship are compulsory. The classes are well structure and planned, and interactive. The tutors are very approachable when you need support. The general learning environment at college is a lot better than school – the students who are here want to learn. It’s a much more mature atmosphere. I would certainly recommend it.”

GCSEs with one AS
As a student you will be aware that the need for GCSEs has never been greater. It’s certainly true that GCSEs give you more choice as you consider your options when you leave school. However, what can you do if you are one or two subjects short of a place on your first choice course?
Our Full Time GCSE Programme is here to help you. It exists primarily as a bridge between GCSEs and A Levels, or other Level 3 courses. Ideally, you will already have one or two grade C GCSEs and will be looking to improve any grades you need in order to progress to a further education course. You may also take one or two new GCSE subjects.
We ask that all students have a profile of at least 4 GCSEs at grade D, including English and, preferably, Maths. It is intended that you will study English, Maths and Humanities, and choose additional subjects from Science, Business Studies, Film Studies, Psychology and Additional Science. You will attend a weekly tutorial and IT Skills classes. The course also offers you the chance to start an AS in a subject that you have already performed well in at GCSE level (providing your GCSE profile supports this).
You will need to be well organised and hard working, and be prepared to do all the homework and private study set by your tutors. At the end of your course you will be guaranteed progression onto
