Catering & Hospitality
Case Study
“Having grown up in the hospitality industry, I always knew it was the route I wanted to take. I did A levels for two years, and then came on this course. The course has been really good, so different to what I thought it would be. I have taken part in loads of events including FE awards and the Ipswich Bangladeshi Charity event, where I’ve supervised the level 2 students.
These have been great as I’ve gained experience on how to manage people and deal with problems as they occur. I’ve been given a lot of responsibility, which I’ve really enjoyed.
College is very different from school. It offers more independence, yes there are some boundaries but you are treated as an adult. I have applied to go to UCS to study for a degree in Event Management.”

Level 3 Hospitality Supervision
The catering & hospitality industry is a people industry, its success is very much dependant on the quality and commitment of the staff within it.
At Suffolk New College our vocational training provides the opportunities to gain the skills and experience necessary to make a successful career in catering and hospitality. We offer courses through NVQ levels 1, 2 and 3. These include Food Preparation and Cooking, Food and Drink Service, Front Office and Hospitality Supervision.
We have an attractive training restaurant which is open to the public where you will gain valuable realistic experience. Work experience placements are available with a number of specialists in the area. Plus our partnership with Ipswich Town Football Club, which involves our NVQ level 1and 2 students, is now in its 7th year and goes from strength to strength. The curriculum centre participates in a number of prestigious functions throughout the year. All of these provide exciting learning opportunities. Throughout the year our students enter a range of local and national competitions and have been consistently successful.
