Awarding Body:

AS Level - Extended Project

Course Codes:  EXPA*

Is this the right course for me?

This subject is offered as part of the Full-Time A Level Programme.  Please refer to the Full-Time A Level Course information sheet for further details.

What do I need to join the course?

Standard programme entry requirements, as per the Full-Time A Level Course Information Sheet.

What does the course involve?

The extended project:

Is a Level 3 qualification that comprises a single piece of work which normally relates to one of the subjects you are taking.

This could include a report, a dissertation, an artefact, or a performance. As long as you show evidence of planning, preparation, research and the ability to work on your own then any of these would normally be acceptable.

The aims of the extended project are:

To test a wider range of skills and help you with planning, research, critical thinking, and in presenting your work. This will prepare you better for the rigours of higher education and employment. You will be able to apply and develop your decision-making and problem-solving skills using initiative and enterprise.

The extended project will be:

Taken in addition to your 3 A-levels in the second year of your subjects and will be completed by November so that your results will be available in January of the following year in time for university interviews. The grading system is the same as for A-levels, i.e. from A*-U and this will carry the same UCAS tariff Points as an AS level qualification. You will have guided support from a specialist supervisor throughout the planning, approval and production period of your project.

The extended project comprises:

A written report of about 5000 words or a combined report of 1000 words and an artefact or performance. This will be started over the summer after your AS exams and will continue until November of that year.

Can I take any additional qualifications?

Please refer to the Full-Time A Level Programme information sheet for details of other subjects offered.

How do I apply?

Please refer to the Full-Time A Level Programme information sheet.
