The annual Sports Awards evening was again held at Shelleys restaurant on Wednesday 6th May 2015. The event is where we celebrate the achievements of the students who have represented the college over the last academic year at the Associaton of Colleges (AoC) sports leagues/tournaments and various events throughout the year.
We had 90 students and guests attending to collect their awards and were served with a fantastic buffet by the excellant catering and hospitality students in Shelleys restaurant.
The evening started with Lewin Goulbourne, president of the Students' Union, welcoming everyone to the evening, fllowed by Dave Muller recognising the achievements of the students and emphasising on the importance of how sport and extra curricular activity can support the students in their academic studies, and the foundation this can lay in focusing students to work together in order to achieve.
Our guest speaker was Tom Marsden who is the newly appointed College Sports Maker at both Suffolk New College and West Suffolk College. He gave a quick insight into his career path from college to present and, with his education in Sports Development, is looking to offer opportunities for students to access active sport as well as accessing volunteering and coaching.
Trudy Sharman presented a powerpoint display with photos and information on the various sports events whilst the students collected their trophies from the principal, Dave Muller.
