1.1Legal Framework

Suffolk New College is incorporated as a Further Education College under the Further and Higher Education Act (1992) as amended by the Learning and Skills Act (2000) and the Learning and Skills Act 2007.

The Acts above prescribe the Instrument and Articles of Government of the College (as amended).

The College is defined as an exempt charity by virtue of the Further and higher Education Act (1992) and the Charities Act (2006)

The College is registered for VAT - registration number GB 571 4975 12

1.3 Lists and information relating to organisations the College works in partnership with, and any companies wholly owned by it. 

Information identifying the relationships between these bodies and the College.

  •  Learning and Skills Council (LSC) - The College has a financial memorandum with the Learning and Skills Council to deliver a range of education and training to 16-18 and 19+ learners.
  • Ofsted - Ofsted inspects the quality of all FE provision.
  • University Campus Suffolk (UCS) - The College delivers Higher Education programmes as part of the UCS Learning Network.
  • Employers - The College works closely with local employers to deliver a range of education and training opportunities.
  • Schools - The College has close ties with many local schools and delivers some vocational learning to 14-16 year olds. The College is also a key player in the develoment of some new diplomas.
  • Suffolk Educational & Training Services Ltd (SETS) - this is wholly owned subsidiary company of the College. SETS Ltd is not currently trading and is a dormant company.
  • Innovation for the Digital Economic Age (IDEA) - The College is a key partner together with BT, University of East Anglia, University of Essex, University Campus Suffolk and University College London in a federated apprenticeship scheme aimed at young adults employed by SMEs in the East of England offering a chance to achieve a qualification in the broad area of ICT.
