Course Overview

Students will develop their knowledge of children and young people’s development, safeguarding their welfare, specialist support including planning, delivering and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher, bilingual and special needs support, personal development and reflective practice. It is suitable for teaching assistants, learning support assistants, parent support advisors, learning mentors or those in similar roles at level 3.

Assessment of skills in the Real Working environment is facilitated by an assessor alongside knowledge units which are assessed by a tutor.

Entry Requirements

  • Be at least 19 years of age.
  • Have a minimum of GCSE grade C in English and Maths (or equivalent O’ level).
  • Students will be required to complete a written assessment prior to enrolment.
  • Minimum of grade D in GCSE Maths. *
  • Students will need to be working, volunteering or on a practical placement for a minimum of 16 hours per week as they need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
  • Complete Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.
  • Commitment to completing between 15 and 20 hours private study to meet standards of assessment at level 3.

* (please be aware that to count in ratio in an early years setting students must have achieved GCSE Grade C in Maths and English by the end of the course)
