You are required to complete 16 units over the year long programme, covering a range of theory and practical elements. You will study Anatomy and Physiology, Health and Safety, Customer Service, Supporting Clients, Nutrition, Principles of Exercise, Fitness and Health, Understanding the Sector, and Developing Self as part of the theory. Practical units are based around studying Health-related Exercise and Physical Activity for Children, Instructing Gym Based Exercise and Delivering Circuit Training. You should expect to be in College for a minimum of three full days a week, while also taking part in relevant work experience in a Sport setting. The programme is assessed using a variety of methods including assignments, practical performance, observations, presentations, and discussions.
The programme includes two one hour exams and a practical assessment which must be successfully passed to attain the qualification.
During the year you are required to undertake a work experience placement within the fitness industry and relevant to your career goals. As well as sessions delivered by the College’s Sports Department, guest speakers are invited in to give additional information to add to the vocational aspect of the Course. Previous guest speakers have included: Premier Sport, Suffolk Sport, Live Well Suffolk, and National Careers Service.

This study programme offers an extensive study of fitness and training. On completion of the programme you will be fully qualified to work as a gym instructor, be able to lead circuit training sessions and deliver exercise and physical activity sessions to children. You will have the opportunity to study in both practical and theory settings, utilising the College’s fantastic facilities while being taught by experienced and enthusiastic industry professionals. Educational trips are arranged for you, including trips to health and fitness exhibitions.
It is expected this will provide students with entry into the fitness industry with work as a gym or circuit instructor; with the additional options of progressing onto our Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Sport to further their education and training.
No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2016

I want to go on to university to study sports science or physio, so this course was ideal. Last year was one of the best - I met lots of people with the same passion for sport as me.
