Course Overview

Students are required to complete the following 7 units over the college year: These units are Fitness Testing and Training, Practical Sport, Anatomy and Physiology, Injury in Sport, Planning and Leading Sports Activities, Exercise and Fitness Instruction, Planning and Running a Sports Event.

There will be 50 hours of work placements in various sports setting as well as opportunities to take part in sport in the community. Students should expect to be in college for a minimum of three full days a week. The programme is assessed using a variety of methods including assignments, practical performance, observations, presentations and discussions.

As well as sessions delivered by the experienced and enthusiastic Sports Department, guest speakers are invited in to give additional information to add to the vocational aspect of the topic being studied. Previous guest speakers have included: Premier Sport, Suffolk Sport, Live Well Suffolk & National Careers Service.

A profile of GCSEs at Grade D Including English and Maths (or their equivalent).

Course Highlights

This study programme has been designed to provide an engaging and stimulating introduction to the world of Sport. It will provide you with the opportunity to develop a variety of skills needed for working in the sports sector. Students will have the opportunity to experience both practical and theory lessons utilising the College’s fantastic facilities and taught by experienced and enthusiastic industry professionals. In the past, students have had the opportunity to take part in an Army Style Boot Camp Day at Wattisham Army Base, visit the Local Gymnastics Centre to perform a detailed Risk Assessment as well as learning new practical skills in a new sport and have taken part in organised classes such as Wheelchair Rugby with the London Wheelchair Rugby Club and a Handball session with Olympic Athlete Louise Jukes, a local Team GB star.

78% of students progressed to further study, and 13% to apprenticeships.

Tuition Costs

No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2016

The course was really interesting and we were learning right from the start in a challenging environment. The practical sessions were always really good and we got the opportunity to develop our fitness, sporting skills and leadership skills, I’m looking forward to starting the Level 3 next year.
