Course Overview

You will learn to develop complex site carpentry techniques such as roofs with hips, valleys and dormer windows. All teaching will take place in our fully equipped workshops and classrooms under guidance from highly qualified and experienced staff. You must pass all practical and theory elements of the programme to achieve this nationally recognised qualification.

All students who have not achieved a grade C or grade 4, or above in GCSE English or maths or both will need to study an English or/and maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification.

Entry Requirements

Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery or those who have extensive and up to date industrial experience, GCSE English and maths grade D or grade 3, or equivalent.

Course Highlights

This study programme will provide you with an extended range of advanced carpentry and joinery skills as you learn in a realistic workshop environment.

You will have the opportunity to test your skills by taking part in national and local competitions, such as Skill Build, World Skills and the Suffolk Show.

To get a taste of working life and build your skills, you will visit different exhibitions and construction sites, as well as spend some time working on community projects outside College. This study programme is aimed at providing you with a range of skills necessary to build a career in the carpentry industry, teaching you skills in our modern workshops.The course will also develop your personal, social and employability skills.You will learn about the trade and participate in a range or work experience activities.

Next Steps

Progression onto an apprenticeship or working on a construction site or in domestic and commercial premises, to given specifications, carrying out first and second fixing, erecting complex structural carcassing components (trussed rafter roofs, traditional cut roofs).

Students may also progress in their career with further training into job roles such as Technician, System Designer, Estimator, Project/Contracts Manager, Site/Workshop Supervisor/Manager, Chartered Engineer, Sales Engineer or Commercial Manager

No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2017.
