Course Overview

Learn the techniques used in modern building methods that will prepare you for working as a skilled bricklayer. These include constructing complex masonry structures, how to repair and maintain masonry structures and constructing chimneys and fireplaces.

All teaching will take place in our fully equipped workshop and classrooms under guidance from highly qualified and experienced staff. You must pass all practical and theory elements of the programme to achieve this nationally recognised qualification.

All students who have not achieved a grade C or grade 4, or above in GCSE English or maths or both will need to study an English or/and maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification.

Entry Requirements

Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying or extensive and up to date industrial experience, GCSE English and maths grade D or grade 3, or equivalent.

Course Highlights

Learn the advanced practical aspects of Bricklaying and build up your skills in our workshops. You have the chance to participate in Skill Build, World Skills and other national and local competitions, whilst also going to see exhibitions and construction sites to help improve your skills and employability.

To prepare you for work after the study programme, you can work with community projects and take part in work experience opportunities. The programme will also involve your personal, social and employability skills.You will learn about the trade and find out what you need to get a job by going to different exhibitions and attending a range of talks by local and national employers.

Next Steps

Students can work towards securing employment with the opportunity to continue studying under the apprenticeship scheme. Progress in their career with further training into job roles such as Technician, System Designer, Estimator, Project/Contracts Manager, Site/Workshop Supervisor/Manager, Chartered Engineer, Sales Engineer or Commercial Manager

I have really enjoyed my time at the College. I was given the chance to stand in as the technician for the Bricklaying Section for two months after I finished the course, which gave me valuable experience before starting my career.
