Roy Hudd Archive Launch

The glory days of the Music Hall was brought to life on Monday 23 January 2012 with the launch of the Hudd Music Hall Archive Project at Suffolk New College. This exciting new project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) will catalogue and organise the unique collection of over 20,000 items of Music Hall and Variety song sheets, acts, programmes, posters and associated audio and video materials owned by the Suffolk based actor, performer and historian Roy Hudd.

Students Help out at Trampolining World Championships

British Gymnastics (BG) and the Federation of International Gymnastics (F.I.G.) hosted the 28th World Trampoline and Tumbling championships at the Birmingham NIA followed by the World age games which sees the best of the world’s junior competitors. Suffolk New College took a team of 9 volunteers to help behind the scenes with roles from stewarding in the warm up area to helping out in the event control room and overseeing the training hall. We also had students running behind the scenes to ensure results got to the Media office and the F.I.G. offices.

At a recent open event held at Suffolk New College there was a prize draw to win an Wi-Fi 16gb i-pad 2. The event was for school leavers who are leaving school in 2012, we invited potential students to complete an entry form for their chance to win this fantastic prize. Christmas came early for one lucky student, Liam Duckley of Farlingaye High School, was selected at random to win the i-pad.

Hairdressing Showcase- Fantasy

On Tuesday 6 December 2011 the Hair Dressing Students showcased their skills in a cat walk show with the theme Fantasy. The students were required to complete a total look for their model on their own interpretation of the theme – this will include hair, make up and clothes.

Launch of The Switch

On 5 December Suffolk New College launched its brand new 24 hour radio station "The Switch". The Switch is available to listen on line at www.theswitchlive.com. The station is run for and by the students. Initially the responsibility of the CAM Media BTEC second year radio specialists, the hope is to open slots on The Switch to all students at the College.

Christmas Concert

On Thursday 8 December 2011, students from Suffolk New College Music Department came together for their annual Christmas Concert.

This year’s event was held at the St Peters Centre. There was over 80 students performing in the concert, celebrating the end of a fabulous term at Suffolk New College.

Students help out at EACH's midnight walk

Thirty students from Childcare and Health and Social Care courses at the College, volunteered to support staff from the Tree House Children’s Hospice in their first Twilight Walk event, to raise money for the Hospice. The students took part in face painting over 500 children’s faces, in luminous paints before they commenced the walk. The walk started at Copleston High school to the Children’s Hospice in Heath Road.  The staff from the hospice congratulated the students on their professional, friendly approach to the children and their parents/carers.

5-a-side Football Tournament

Students from Learning for Independence took part in a football tournament and travelled to the Football Development Centre in Norwich. The team competed against Chelmsford College & City College Norwich in 6-a-side matches. The matches were 14 mins long and each team played the other teams twice. The students really enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to wear the Suffolk New College strip. The students who took part were: Maxwell Lake, Simon Shelton, Scott Mulley, Adam McTague, Toby Holloway and Leon Porter. Well done to everyone involved as they represented the College very well.
