HONORARY GRADUATES FOR 2007
October 2007 will see the last cohort of Higher Education students from Suffolk College graduate. The following will be receiving Honorary Degrees of the University of East Anglia at the Ceremonies on Wednesday, 31 October 2007 and Thursday, 1 November 2007: The Graduation Ceremonies will this year be held at the Trinity Park Conference and Events Centre.
Honorary Degrees are awarded to those individuals with a national or international reputation; individuals who have made a significant contribution to Ipswich or the County of Suffolk or individuals with a strong connection to Ipswich or the County of Suffolk.
Amanda Donohoe: The actressAmanda Donohoe has appeared in numerous films and television series and on the stage in both the West End and on Broadway including LA Law, Castaway and Bad Girls and lives in West Suffolk. Amanda will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters at the ceremony on Thursday, 1 November 2007 at 1830 hours.
Nigel Havers: The actor Nigel Havers has appeared in the following films: Chariots of Fire; A Passage to India; the Whistle Blower; Empire of the Sun; Burke and Wills, Burning Season and Paradise Lost. His TV Credits include: The Glittering Prizes; Nicholas Nickleby; A Horseman Riding up; Upstairs Downstairs; Don’t Wait UP; Strangers and Brothers; The Charmer; Proof; A Perfect Hero; Sleepers; The Good Guys; The Heart Surgeon; Dangerfield; The Gentleman Thief and Manchild. Nigel will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law at the ceremony on Thursday 1 November 2007 at 1500 hours.
James Hehir: James Hehir has been Chief Executive of Ipswich Borough Council since 1989 and has been a member of Suffolk Corporation since 1993. He has strong local links and attended Ipswich Civic College (now Suffolk New College). James will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law at the ‘Town and Gown’ ceremony on Wednesday 31 October 2007 at 1830 hours.
Roy Hudd: Roy Hudd has been a famous face in showbiz for thirty five years as a comedy entertainer, dramatic actor, playwright and performer. Roy will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law at the ceremony on Thursday,1 November 2007 at 1100 hours.
Carenza Lewis: The Archaeologist Carenza Lewis has been instrumental in bringing Archaeology to the attention of the public through the innovative TV series ‘Time Team’. She currently lectures at Cambridge University, and has worked closely with The Suffolk “Aim Higher” Project Team. Carenza will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science at the ceremony on Thursday 1 November 2007 at 1100 hours .
Eamonn McCabe: The photographer Eamonn McCabe has travelled the world but a large part of his inspiration lies in the landscape of Suffolk. Eamon will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters at the ceremony on Wednesday, 31 October 2007 at 1500 hours.
Julie Myerson: Julie Myerson is a well know novelist and critic. Her novel ‘Something Might Happen’, explored the devastating effect of a brutal murder on the inhabitants of a small seaside town in Suffolk. Julie will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law at the ceremony on Wednesday, 31 October 2007 at 1100 hours.
