Fellows of Suffolk New College
Suffolk New College has formally created a group of Fellows, made up from a wide range of committed and talented people from the local community. The Fellows will work alongside the Governing Body to promote and contribute to the life of Suffolk New College.
The thinking behind creation of the Fellows is to increase the College’s ability to engage with the wider community and business. The Fellows will contribute and enrich the educational experience of students at Suffolk New College by bringing to them the richness of their knowledge of the outside world.
Dave Muller. Suffolk New College’s Principal, said:
“It’s an exciting and important new development in our bond with the community we serve. We have invited people with the skills, knowledge and interest in what we are doing to help the College and so make a valuable contribution to the student experience. “
Some of the Fellows will be able to make a significant input to the courses offered, some Fellows are from business and can strengthen employer engagement. A number are from the community and they will enhance the leadership role of Suffolk New College as being pivotal in the education and training of young people in citizenship. There are also some Fellows from the world of education who will encourage students to continue further study either full-time or part-time once leaving.
Suffolk New College Fellows are selected and invited by a group made up of College Governors and Suffolk New College staff and chaired by the Principal. The Chair of Corporation will be in membership. Fellows will be appointed in the first instance for a period of three years and new Fellows will be appointed every twelve to eighteen months. It is aimed to have a group of approximately twenty-five Suffolk New College Fellows.
Fellows will visit the College and to take part in some activity which enhances the Curriculum of students during the Academic Year. These activities will be supported by staff. These activities may range from a question and answer session with a particular group of students through to a demonstration of a practical skill within an occupational area. Fellows will be invited to attend Suffolk New College events. Fellows will provide students with a link to the world of work and help develop their social responsibility.
It is intended that the Award of Fellow of Suffolk New College will be seen as an honour and a privilege to be able to contribute to a re-branded more focussed provider of what will be primarily full-time further education for those aged 16+.
