African History Month Art Launch

Suffolk New College, working with the Nia Project to celebrate African History Month, was  delighted to recently hold a reception to mark the opening of ‘Contemporary Gestures and Movements of Africa - an Exhibition of Figurative Studies of Traditional African Dance and Worship’ by Alvin Kofi.  The opening was attended by many local dignitaries together with the artist.

Kofi’s work captures the tradition and magic that is reflected in African and Caribbean culture that is portrayed in a bold graceful manner, expressed through movement, line and colour. He approaches complex subjects and presents them within simple compositions. Distinct in his style and approach and with consistency, he has earned the recognition as one of the leading Black artists in the UK.

The exhibition which is being held at the Tourist Information Centre, St Stephens Church, St Stephens Lane, Ipswich, is open to the public until Saturday 4 October 2008.
