The Sixth Form Centre offers the following courses: full-time AS and A-level programmes, full-time GCSE retake programme; Access to Higher Education Diploma (Social Sciences); part-time language courses (modern foreign languages and British Sign Language). We also offer some part-time GCSE Courses.
Full time A-level programmes are of two years duration. The programmes are aimed principally at students between ages of 16 - 19 who have recently been engaged in full time study and seek to achieve higher level qualifications for employment, further training or higher education. Students on these programmes follow a variety of subject courses leading to AS or A-level qualifications. Students are generally expected to have passed a minimum of five GCSEs at grades A* - C including English Language as a requirement for these programmes. Alongside academic study of subjects, all full time students also follow a tutorial and enrichment programme which includes developing their ICT and Study Skills in order to cope with the demands of employment as well as higher education. Click here for further information about the full time A-Level Programme.
The Ipswich Sixth Form Centre provides opportunities for students to re-take GCSEs whilst at the same time gaining ICT key skills to prepare them for further study or the workplace. The minimum entry requirements are four grade Ds at GCSE.
The one year HE Access Diploma prepares students for study at university. It is aimed at students without formal qualifications who wish to progress to Higher Education and pursue a degree in Social Sciences or related areas. Students will need to demonstrate an ability and motivation to study at this level.
Part time GCSE courses cater for adult students wishing to study and build up their qualifications through attendance at a single weekly class over approximately 30 weeks, generally run in the evening. These are intensive courses, requiring students keen to achieve a qualification in committing time to study outside the classes themselves.

The Skills for Life department is dedicated to improving the language, literacy and numeracy levels of young people and adults from pre-entry to the nationally recognised Level 2 qualification, which is showing functionality at GCSE C-A* grade.
Through our part-time programme, we aim to meet the needs of local communities, employers and individuals who seek to improve their Basic Skills (literacy and numeracy), and/or ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) language skills, in order to achieve their personal goals!
Adult Basic Skills/ESOL: This is a broad area of learning, delivering literacy numeracy and language programmes from Entry 1 to Level 2 (GCSE A* - C equivalent) on campus, in the community and in the workplace. All programmes are flexible and responsive in nature but with a clear focus on the achievement of national qualifications.
Adult Literacy and Numeracy Programmes: These programmes are delivered within the Skills for Life team.
