The Construction teaching department forms part of the Automotive, Construction & Engineering Services (ACES) section of Suffolk New College and is one of the largest providers of construction education and training in the East of England region. It offers a wide and diverse range of academic and vocational courses which cater for the needs of the local population and the regional Construction industry, allied professions and authorities. The department works closely with local employers to develop a programme of education and training to suit the Construction industry.

The department provides a ladder of opportunity for all, irrespective of previous experience or qualifications.

Qualificatory courses are available in a variety of modes of delivery including full-time, part-time and apprenticeships. Apprentice programmes are offered through ConstructionSkills (formerly called the Construction Industry Training Board or CITB) and direct through Suffolk New College.

The range of courses offered covers two academic areas: craft and technician training. This spread of activity and diversity of range is not common among other colleges in this area. The provision is available to students from sixteen years of age through to mature adults, with opportunities open to learners with a variety of entry qualifications. Outcomes extend from basic craft awards through to technician and professional qualifications.

The Construction curriculum offers NVQ Levels 2 & 3 with City & Guilds qualifications in the specialist trade areas of Bricklaying, Carpentry, Joinery, Furniture Production, Painting & Decorating, Plumbing and Woodmachining. We are also now accredited by BPEC to deliver specialist one-day courses in Plumbing. Visit this page for further information on our Plumbing short courses.

Progression is facilitated through the provision of Foundation Degree (FdSc) awards in Construction Management, Building Surveying, Civil Engineering and Building Control and Bachelor Degree (BSc) progression routes in Construction Management and Civil Engineering. Visit this page for further information on our Higher Education courses.
