Visit to Arras by Students and Staff of Suffolk College - 10 June 2004
On Tuesday 15 June, students of the Performing Arts Department will be leaving Ipswich taking their production of ‘The Caucasian Chalk Circle’ to Arras.
They will be accompanied by Catering staff and students, and two Ipswich Artists, taking with them the work of a further two artists, all of whom are, or have been staff or students of Suffolk College.
This is the sixth such visit that Brian Theodore Ralph, Senior Lecturer & Course Leader National Diploma Performing Arts, will have taken to Arras, the third with National Diploma students.
The itinerary includes an evening at the Centre Culturel Noroit on Wednesday 16th June, organised by Bernard Petitot.
At this 'Soiree' the work of the four Ipswich Artists, Mel Donahoe, Emma Johnson, Michael Lumb and Philip Vaughan will be exhibited at the Centre.
The Evening will include Installation Art Performances, a performance by the National Diploma Performing Arts Students of their final Dance production ' Heart Flesh' , under the direction of Imogen Fraser, interviews with the Artists, and with Brian Theodore Ralph, and finally a buffet reception laid on by the catering students.
The following evening, Thursday 17 June, will feature a performance of Bertolt Brecht's ‘The Caucasian Chalk Circle’ at the Pharos Theatre, where interval refreshments will be served by the Catering Students.
MORE
The whole event has been organised between Brian Theodore Ralph and Alain Lautel and Bernard Petitot , who with the support and hospitality of the Mayor of Arras, Jean-Marie Vanleurenberghe , and M. Demaziere , 'Adjoint a la Culture' - have organised the availability of the venues for the performances.
Suffolk College enthusiastically and wholeheartedly supports these visits, with Principal Dave Müller and Assistant Principal (Further & Adult Education) Marilyn Watsham ensuring the financial underpinning, making possible such initiatives, and what is more enabling the scheduling of the visit as an annual feature of the students' experience at Suffolk College.
Whilst providing a most enriching and exciting experience for all involved, particularly the students, the visit once again strengthens and develops the links between Suffolk College, the University of Artois, A.A.I. and the Town of Arras
