Students and Staff Celebrate First Anniversary for Framlingham Learning Centre - 23 December 2004
Students and staff at the Framlingham Learning Centre are celebrating a successful first year, and the Suffolk market town can look forward to an increased range of courses and services in 2005 .
Managed by Suffolk College, the Suffolk Institute of Technology Learning Centre in Framlingham opened its doors to the local community in January 2004 with a range of computer courses from complete beginners upwards. Over the past year this has been supplemented by courses in business skills, bookkeeping using Sage Line 50, refresher courses in language and maths, and much more.
"This has been a satisfying year for us in Framlingham," said David Bowers, Associate Dean for Learning Resources at Suffolk College. "We have become part of the local community, meeting the needs of individuals and small businesses. Using the high quality, flexible on-line course materials from learndirect, we can keep costs low and enrol people on their chosen courses at any time. We can offer nationally recognised qualifications such as the European Computer Driving Licence or the National Tests in Literacy and Numeracy, but at the same time we welcome members of the public who simply want to learn for pleasure or personal satisfaction."
Dr Peter Funnell, Assistant Principal (Learning Development) at the College, said, "Our centre at Framlingham is part of an expanding network designed to take learning opportunities to individuals and businesses across the county. Its location within a vibrant and welcoming Technology Centre adds value to the courses we offer. Staff at the centre can also help individuals progress to further and higher education and link with emerging new developments such as University Campus Suffolk."
