National Roles for College Manager - 7 September 2004

The work of one of the county's best known educational managers, Dr Peter Funnell, Assistant Principal (Learning Development) at Suffolk College, has been recognised by two recent national appointments. Dr Funnell, who has an international reputation in the use of new technologies in education and training, has been appointed by the Department of Education to its ICT Expert Group and by the Joint Information Steering Committee to one of its policy committees overseeing the use of information and communications technologies, including the Internet, in the provision of education and training.

Commenting on his appointments Dr Funnell said: "I am delighted that our work at Suffolk College, and more recently through the Suffolk Institute of Technology, has been recognised in this way. The use of new technologies to support learning is in its infancy but offers great potential to widen and deepen opportunities both for young people and for those committed to lifelong learning."

Dr Funnell has worked closely with BT over many years and has established a research centre - CREATE - both at Adastral Park and the main College campus.
