Leading Suffolk Educationalist Helps Universities - 23 January 2004

One of Suffolk’s leading educationalists, Dr Peter Funnell, Assistant Principal (Learning Development) at Suffolk College, has been appointed as a reader assessing bids from universities seeking to become a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). The scheme to be launched in 2004 is managed by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and is designed to acknowledge and build on excellent teaching in the university sector.

Dr Funnell said: "I am delighted to contribute to the CETL initiative. The invitation from HEFCE to contribute reflects the nationally recognised excellence of higher education teaching at Suffolk College, and is important at this time as we work with UEA and Essex University to develop a university campus in the county".

Dr Funnell, who has an international research reputation in e-learning will combine his work on the CETL initiative with his membership of the advisory panel for the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme, which allocates £1m of funding to excellent teachers in HE through a national competition.
