Civic Celebration Of Suffolk College - 8 April 2004

Suffolk College is holding its annual Civic Service at St Mary le Tower Church, Ipswich, on Friday 14 May 2004 at 12.00 noon. The service gives the opportunity to celebrate the close relationship between Suffolk College, Ipswich Borough Council and the town of Ipswich, and also the support of Ipswich Borough Council for a new Further Education college in Ipswich and the University Campus Suffolk Project.

A procession will leave the Ipswich Town Hall for St Mary le Tower Church at 11.45am. The procession, in which many of the participants will be in ceremonial dress, will include:

Mayor of Ipswich and Consort

Deputy Mayor of Ipswich and Consort

Ipswich Borough Councillors

Suffolk College Corporation Members

Members of the Suffolk College Management

Honorary Graduates of Suffolk College

Honorary Fellows of Suffolk College

Church Representatives

Multi-faith Representatives

Ipswich Guild of Freemen

Representatives from the University of East Anglia and University of Essex

Speaker: Simon Weston OBE. Simon, whose determination to overcome the injuries he suffered in the Falklands conflict, has inspired courage and the will to excel in countless others. Simon’s road to physical, spiritual and mental recovery saw him active in a number of highly successful ventures including The Weston Spirit, a Liverpool-based young people’s charity. He remains a tireless worker for the Royal British Legion and the Royal Star and Garter Home. His charitable work earned him an OBE in the 1992 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

All members of the public are welcome to attend the service at 12.00 noon at St Mary le Tower Church which will last for approximately 45 minutes.
