Celebrating World Radiography Day - 3 November 2004

To celebrate World Radiography Day on Monday, 8 November, a number of diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy departments are opening their doors to the public. It is an ideal opportunity for students who are contemplating their choice of degree courses to visit and consider a future within radiography. It is also a great chance for schoolchildren to visit and see what Radiographers do.

Did you know? If you have an accident and go to hospital, the chances are that you will see a Diagnostic radiographer. They produce images that are used to diagnose injury or disease. Therapeutic radiographers use precisely targeted doses of radiation to cure or ease the symptoms of cancer. Both are as trained in the use of expensive, hi-tech equipment as they are in caring for patients and are essential to the well being of society at large. Without radiographers at the heart of modern medicine, modern healthcare would be compromised in the area of diagnosis, cancer treatment and patient care.

If you are Interested in people/diagnosis and treatment, and want to know more about the workings of imaging and radiotherapy come along to one of the following Open Events:

6th November

• Ipswich Hospital, Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy Dept, 10am – 12pm

• West Suffolk Hospital, Diagnostic Imaging Dept, 10am - 2pm

13th November

• James Paget Hospital, Diagnostic Imaging Dept, 10am - 1pm

Additionally on 8 November, World Radiography Day, Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge will have a stand in their concourse during lunchtime, and Colchester General hospital will have diagnostic radiographers available for discussions about radiography and give practical explanations about the use of x-rays within their department.
