Suffolk New College works with top world University

Suffolk New College is pleased to announce that they are now actively contributing to the Folding@Home project created by Stanford University, USA. Folding@Home works when organisations and individuals across the world download and run a piece of software that helps create one of world’s largest supercomputers. Using shared processing power Folding@Home is able to simulate problems millions of times more challenging than can be achieved on individual computers and servers.

The Folding@Home project uses distributed computing that takes advantage of idle computer processing power within the College to complete research projects aimed at finding cures for known diseases such as Alzheimer's, BSE, CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's, Cancers and Cancer related syndromes. Suffolk New College has donated the processing power of 20 servers which undertaken over 2600 different projects on behalf of Stanford University.

Dave Muller, Suffolk New College Principal said:

“Suffolk New College is proud to be able to donate space capacity within our IT system that would not otherwise be utilised. The advances achieved from this worldwide collaboration in medical research are unprecedented.”

The wider project has already received many accolades from a ‘Guinness World Record’ to numerous scientific awards.
