Suffolk College to expand ‘Skills for Life’ provision - 9 June 2006

Suffolk College, has announced that it is expanding further next year its range of study opportunities in literacy, numeracy and IT.

Marilyn Watsham, Assistant Principal of Further and Adult Education at the College, described these as essential ‘skills for life’. They can enhance both the quality of everyday life for individuals and enable employees to become more highly skilled and thereby maximise their contribution to the effectiveness and efficiency of their organisations.

Mrs Watsham said that there would be opportunities for students to study in a wide range of different ways that best suited their individual learning needs including whole class activity, small group learning and individual study. She added that learndirect provision would not however be available at the college from September. The college has recently decided to withdraw from learndirect activity based upon a range of factors including the relative mix of business, local market responsiveness, funding opportunities and local operating costs.

A full list of skills for life courses and all other part- time courses available at the College from September can be found in the College’s 2006-7 Part Time prospectus which will be available in early July. Members of the public wishing to order a copy are invited to contact the Information Centre at the College on 01473 296606. Employers wishing to discuss how the College can develop further the skills of their workforce are invited to contact Jeff Mearns , Head of the Business Development Unit on 01473 296473.
