Honorary Graduands Available For Interview/Photo Opportunity
• Suffolk College graduation ceremonies will be held on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 October 2006 at Trinity Park Conference and Events Centre (formally the Suffolk Showground)
• More than 900 students will be graduating.
• The Senate of the University of East Anglia have decided, on the advice of Suffolk College, to award honorary degrees to those listed below. Honorary Degrees are awarded to those individuals with a national or international reputation; individuals who have made a significant contribution to Ipswich or the County of Suffolk or individuals with a strong connection to Ipswich or the County of Suffolk. The selection process and graduation ceremonies underline Suffolk College’s commitment to the community.

Assis Carreiro:
Assis Carreiro has been Director of Ipswich based Dance Agency DanceEast for nearly four years. Prior to that she was the founding Director of Birmingham’s Dance Exchange and then went to London to work for The Place and Random Dance. Assis will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law. Pre Reception event: Wednesday, 25 October 2006 at 10.45am.
Pat Hutchins:
Pat Hutchins is a freelance writer and illustrator of numerous Children’s books, including ‘My Best Friend’, ‘Happy Birthday Sam’ and ‘You’ll Soon Grow Into Them, Titch’. She was awarded the Prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal for ‘The Wind Blew’. Pat will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law. Pre Reception event: Wednesday, 25 October 2006 at 2.30pm.
Jacqui Dankworth:
Jacqui Dankworth is highly regarded as a singer and tours all over the country and internationally. She started as an actress and then went on to have a very successful recording career. Jacqui will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Music. Pre Reception event: Wednesday, 25 October 2006 at 5.45pm.
Ian Lavender:
The actor Ian Lavender has featured in numerous television programmes, most famously as Private Pike in ‘Dads Army’ and as Derek Harkinson in ‘Eastenders’, and has performed many times in the West End. He makes regular appearances in the region to support health-related charities following his battle with cancer some years ago. Ian will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law. Jasper Conran:
Jasper Conran has been the Designer and Managing Director of Jasper Conran Ltd since 1978. He has received numerous awards over the years, including the British Fashion Council ‘Designer of the Year’ Award and the Laurence Oliver Award for ‘Costume Designer of the Year’ for ‘The Rehearsal’. He is renowned for getting involved in local community events. Jasper will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law. Pre Reception event: Thursday, 26 October 2005 at 2.30pm.
Bill Wyman:
Bill Wyman is a well known musician. Following his retirement from the Rolling Stones in 1993 he formed the Rhythm Kings. He has written books, appeared in numerous films, written soundtracks and won a variety of high profile awards. Bill will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law. Pre Reception event: Thursday, 26 October 2006 at 5.45pm.
