Students bake cake for Jack and the Beanstalk

Suffolk New College Catering and Hospitality staff and students were delighted to be asked to make a cake to celebrate The Wolsey Theatres 10th anniversary.  Four students took the challenge - Lee Mallon, Chanel Cartey, Emily Davies and Charlie Cahill alongside Chef Lecturers Adelle Hunter and Andrew Billing - of designing and baking the cake based on the Wolsey’s recent performance of Jack and the Beanstalk.

The catering department designed an elaborate cake that stood 3ft tall which appeared as the feature cake and they also made 400 cupcakes to be given away at the end of the charity performance, each cupcake had a piped beanstalk and a "magic bean" to finish it off.

The staff and students gave up their own time to prepare all the cakes for the event.

The evening was a great success, with the cake taking prime position in the middle of the box office. Adelle Hunter, Suffolk New College chef lecturer said: “I'm so proud of the students who helped design and bake the cake, and gave up their Sunday evening to serve the cupcakes to guests and members of the cast. It’s been a great experience for them.”
