SPORTY SEAT’S THE NEW KID ON CAMPUS
An Ipswich car retailer is helping to train the technicians of tomorrow after donating one of its most popular models for use by motor vehicle maintenance students at Suffolk New College.
Cox of Ipswich donated the stylish SEAT Leon as a valuable training tool for the 100 or so students who work towards Institute of the Motor Industry qualifications at the college’s recently-opened and fully-equipped workshop.
Until now the students have been used to honing their mechanical skills on old vehicles donated to the college by local scrap yards. But the advanced technology on board SEAT’s popular family hatchback will allow the students to work on more modern disciplines like computer diagnostics, air conditioning servicing, ABS braking systems and multiplex wiring.
Brian Evans, Programme Leader for Motor Vehicle at the college’s stunning campus in central Ipswich, said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to receive such a generous donation and are enormously grateful to Cox of Ipswich for the support they have given us.
‘This car will be a fantastic addition to the vehicles we already have in the workshop and will allow the students to get their hands on a wealth of the most modern motoring technology which, ultimately, will stand them in good when they qualify and go out into the workplace.’
Presenting the car to the college, Neil Dobson, Aftersales Director at Cox of Ipswich in Goddard Road East, said: ‘I’ve been really impressed by the workshop set-up at Suffolk New College, but the students there will only achieve their full potential if they have the appropriate vehicles to work on. Hopefully, this donation will help.
‘As a dealership, there’s a strong chance that some of the young people who have trained at Suffolk New College may one day end up working in our workshop and so it’s great to know that they will have had first hand experience of SEAT engineering and technology. That has to be good news for our customers as we look to offer the highest standards of aftersales care.’
