Peter Mortimer Honorary Fellowship from UEA 2007

CHAIR OF SUFFOLK NEW COLLEGE CORPORATION TO RECEIVE UEA HONORARY FELLOWSHIP

The Reverend Canon Peter Mortimer, MBE, OStJ, TD, MA, FRSA, Chair of the Suffolk New College Corporation is to receive an Honorary Fellowship of the University of East Anglia at a ceremony to be held on Thursday, 1 November 2007 at 1830 hours at Trinity Park Conference and Events Centre.

Honorary Fellowships of UEA are awarded to those individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to its life and work. The award reflects the value which the University attaches to the role that the individual has played in the development of the University, its partner Colleges and the local community. Canon Mortimer is receiving the award in recognition of his enormous contribution to the establishment of University Campus Suffolk and the then Suffolk College, an accredited College of the University of East Anglia.

Canon Mortimer has been a Member of the Corporation of Suffolk College (now Suffolk New College) since 1996, was Vice Chair between 2001 and 2004 and has been Chair since 2004. He was involved in establishing the Public Services course within the College and served for nearly 40 years in the Territorial Army and Cadet Forces, retiring in the rank of Colonel. He has also worked nationally and locally for the Prince’s Trust and was a Member of the Princes Trust Council. He is Ecumenical Adviser to the Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich.
