Former College student takes Oath of Allegiance

Alex Hosking, a former carpentry and joinery student at Suffolk New College took his Oath of Allegiance today at a ceremony held at Suffolk New College. Alex is the first Suffolk New College student to graduate as part of the Further Education Bursary Scheme with the British Army.  The FE Bursary Scheme is an exciting new initiative where the Army and local colleges work in partnership to support a one year programme for students who wish to join the Army on completion of their studies.  It financially rewards the students for achieving at college and completing Army training

Alex who is going to Bassingbourne in Cambridgeshire to complete his basic training said “I have really enjoyed my time at college and being part of the FE Bursary Scheme. It has been great to have the opportunity to learn a trade which I will be able to develop further in the Army. I have completed some fantastic training exercises that have really showed me what basic training will be like. I am now ready for the Army and the challenges it will throw at me.”

Major Grant Pocock, who performed the ceremony said “Alex is the first candidate from Suffolk New College to graduate from the FE Bursary Scheme and take his Oath of Allegiance, it was a great honour and privilege to share this ceremony with his close family and colleagues from Suffolk New College. We hope other young people will follow in Alex’s foot steps. The scheme is such a great opportunity to further young people’s skills and after completing it guarantees a place in the Army”.
