Catering Industry Professionals talk to students

Suffolk New College has recently hosted a number of local industry specialists who were passing on their skills and knowledge to our NVQ level 3 Diploma in Professional Cookery students.

Our first visit was from the British Larder, Bromswell Woodbridge (who has just won Gastro pub of the year). Both proprietors - Ross and Maddy; came in and gave a demonstration about Freedom foods and they also prepared a fish platter showing how to present food in a modern way.

The second visit was from Rick Sheepshanks of Stokes Sauces, Rick spoke about product development and using fresh ingredients, Products that Stokes sell and the different between more manufactured products,  followed by a Lamb demonstration by Chris Cleveleys on different cuts of meats, the day was then finished with John Jackaman from Infusions4chefs looking at molecular Gastronomy which is a modern approach to cookery.

This has been a great experience for the students to learn from professionals about different types of professional cookery and they have gained valuable, transferrable skills. Will we be working with these companies to make sure our students at Suffolk New College get the best possible start to their training. Its important to showcase what we do in the catering department as our student need a clear direction with jobs for the future. Having these chefs and local employers coming in and giving up their time is a help to inspire the students careers. We will be working with these companies in the future.
