Are You Seeing ‘Voices’? -14 February 2007
With the ever increasing pressures and stress of our daily lives, many of us, at some time, experience problems with our mental wellbeing. With this in mind, Esther Cook from East Suffolk Mind approached the Creative Arts and Media Faculty of Suffolk College with a proposal to put together a live event which would help increase awareness of mental health issues.
This project came to fruition on Wednesday 24 January when students and staff from the College, as well as public audiences were invited to experience an exciting artistic collaboration at the Forefront, Suffolk College. The project was created by artists, musicians and performers with the aim of providing thought provoking work addressing the mental health issues which can affect anyone in our college and community.
Featured in the day-long event were several performances of ‘Voices’, a piece devised by students in their second year of the National Diploma in Performing Arts. Using a combination of drama, music and physical theatre, ’Voices’ provides an insightful journey through different areas of mental health.
Also featured were compositions and performances by students from Suffolk College’s Music National Diploma course (pictured below), animations by students on the Introductory Diploma in Art and Design and work by Art and Design National Diploma students. During the day some of these students also created live art in response to the images they saw.
