Another Positive Report from OFSTED - 30 January 2007

Suffolk College have received more positive feedback from OFSTED. The recently-published report on the annual assessment which took place at the end of last year concludes:

• Success rates for NVQ provision remained high in 2005/06. They were significantly above the national averages (for 2004/05) for all levels and age groups.

• The proportion of students achieving high grades on National Diploma courses increase further from 32% in 2004/05 to 35% in 2005/06.

• The overall success rates for GCE A level and AS provision improved in 2005/06 for students aged 16 to 18. Success rates for the significant numbers of students aged 19+ on these courses remained significantly above the national averages for colleges of this type.

• Key skills and work based learning achievements improved overall in 2005/06.

Marilyn Watsham, Suffolk College Deputy Principal said, “Maintaining success is a continuous process for Suffolk College. The positive OFSTED feedback builds on our own self assessment findings that highlight:-

• Continued improvement in success rates from 75% in 04/05 to 82% in 05/06. (Retention 90%, achievement 91%)

• Success rates place Suffolk College in the top quartile for 16-18 and in the top 10% of colleges for +19

• Performance in national Diploma programmes remains good at 89% achievement.”

These latest findings from OFSTED confirm that further progress has been made in improving outcomes from the inspection of Suffolk College earlier in 2006.”
