The Education, Care, Learning for Independence and Public Services (ECLIPS) Curriculum Centre offers a wide range of courses for students of all ages and abilities who wish to gain a qualification in the care, early years and public sectors. It also offers courses to support those involved in education and training.

Approximately 500 full time students and 300 part time students enrol each year. Many of the full time students are school leavers who intend to progress onto further courses or to gain

The range of courses covers three main areas::

BTEC National Diploma in Child Care Learning and Development – Level 3

Health and Social Care

BTEC Introductory Diploma in Vocational Studies– Level 1

BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care – Level 3

BTEC Extended Diploma in Health Sciences - Level 3

Public Services

Level 2 Diploma in Public Services

The provision of courses at level 1,2 and 3 means that we are able to meet individual needs of all applicants and offer progression within the curriculum centre. To see full course listings of the above courses click here.

Part Time Courses

Part time courses are currently under development and will include a suite of qualifications for Playwork, Teaching Assistants and Early Years Professionals. There has been significant growth in this area to meet government targets to provide quality childcare and enhance the qualifications of care workers. In addition, we are also able to provide continuing professional development to experienced practitioners through the A1 and V1 Awards.

To deliver the curriculum, the centre has an integrated team of well qualified lecturers, learning support assistants and assessors, who maintain and develop their occupational competence.

All students in the curriculum centre engage in placements, trips and visits in appropriate work settings. We work closely with providers of services in the community to ensure the success of the courses. Care, Education and Public Services has established strong links with other providers of Care and Early Years training including, Suffolk County Council Education Department and Suffolk County Council Early Years and Childcare Training Unit.

The Learning for Independence centre offers students the opportunity into learning by progressing in areas of interest, expanding on skills and building on qualifications and fulfilling their potential as learners. It ensures that choice is offered with a variety of high quality learning experiences.  We have a multi-agency approach making a smooth transition links into learning/employment. We offer individual learning with choice and clear pathways, involving connexions and other agencies.

The centre celebrates achievement and recognises potential at a pace that is right for the student and it engages all students in a fun and exciting way into learning by offering creative learning packages that develops personal and social skills and encourages motivation through learning. We have a track record of creative learning with the students wellbeing and choice driving the centre forward. 

The centre provides full time courses for young people aged 16-18 and, in some instances, up to 25, with additional learning needs. Students receive a programme of study from an experienced staff dedicated to preparing them to move on into further education and/or to help prepare them for independent living.
