Automotive, Construction and Engineering Services (ACES)
The curriculum centre of Automotive, Construction and Engineering Services (ACES) is made up of a broad range of provision for learners aged from 14, through to Foundation and Honours Degree, as well as apprenticeships and services to business. As well as all this, the curriculum centre also supports high quality delivery of provision off site at a local high school, and offers an inclusive approach to engaging with students with a range of learning disabilities, both within the college, and from local high schools. There is also a small provision of subject specific leisure learning.
ACES is an exciting and vibrant curriculum centre, with state of the art workshops and laboratories, with a team of highly qualified and expert lecturers and instructors. Whether it is a technical or craft qualifications, the teaching team are 100% committed to giving students the best experience, and their passion for their subject area is evident in their teaching. This was recognised at the last Ofsted inspection, and through annual inspection from Awarding Bodies.
The teaching team are supported by a dedicated team of workshop and laboratory technicians who ensure that practical sessions support students in acquiring the skills needed to enter into employment work-ready.
In the classrooms, a dedicate team of learning support assistants (LSAs) support the teachers in ensuring learning is accessible to all students, and that learning needs are addressed, so that students feel able to progress.
Work-based learners, including apprentices and NVQ candidates, are supported by a team of qualified and competent NVQ assessors, and the centre has a good record of overall achievement that meets employer demands. Opportunities for new provision is constantly under review, and the centre is supported by the Vice Principal (Business Development). For those at higher levels of study, we are proud to be able to offer a range of Foundation and Honours Degrees, covering Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering and Construction Management. We are especially pleased that our Civil Engineering Degrees have been accredited by the JBM, and in 2011/12 we anticipate the accreditation visit of the CIOB.
