Tom Griffin – Clerk to the Corporation

 

The Clerk to the Corporation is responsible for making sure that:

The business of the Corporation (the College’s governing body) is carried out smoothly and efficiently and that a proper record is maintained of the Corporation’s business;

The Corporation acts within its powers and complies with all relevant legislation;

All decisions taken by the Corporation are based on an understanding of agreed and proper procedures.

He holds the Register of the financial and personal interests of Corporation Members.

Tom Griffin has been Clerk to the Corporation since April 2004. He qualified as a Solicitor in Scotland in 1972, and after some years in private legal practice, entered local government service. He was Chief Executive of Maldon District Council from 1986 – 1991, and Chief Executive of Suffolk Coastal District Council from 1991 until his retirement in 2003.

Since 2008, Clerking services to Suffolk New College Corporation have been provided by Invergarvan Limited, of which Tom Griffin is a Director.
